Friday Movie Night - Manufacturing Consent

It's Friday Night! Party Time!   Time to relax, put your feet up on the couch, lay back, and watch some detailed videos on economic policy!

This weeks film is an oldie but goodie, Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media.

This award winning documentary interviews Chomsky on his social model and book, Manufacturing Consent: The Political Economy of the Mass Media. It introduces the Propaganda model of mass media and any critical viewer these days knows, no story tells the whole story. The documentary won many awards and is quite the intellectual eye opener on mass media manipulation. It's not dull and not just an interview! Lots of very nice examples!

I was inspired by another who noted that TV, i.e. cable, satellite, is becoming increasingly expensive, limited and even dropping information channels in favor of infomercial programming. For example, the second channel of CSPAN was dropped recently. Originally TV was all about being free, paid for advertising. Now, for anyone who does not live in a major metropolis, TV is simply not free, information is not free and even when one pays for it, still the propaganda filters are on.
